Welcome to the Saunton Sands Surfboat team. We are part of the Saunton Sands Surf Lifesaving Club, based in North Devon. We row in the UK Surf Rowers League, competing at venues throughout the south west of England and in Wales. In 2007 we reached the final at the UK National Surfboat Championships and came fourth. Surfboat racing is a relatively new sport in the UK although it is well established in other countries, particularly Australia. It can be very exciting, particularly when the surf is large. It is also an excellent spectator sport, as all of the action takes place close to the shore.
The 2008 season is now underway, our first race being at our home beach. The second race is at Watergate Bay on the 12th of July at 5pm in the evening.
The Aussies are coming! September 6th 2008, Grande Plage, Biarritz, France. 36 of the World's top surfboat teams will be racing against European opposition. British crews will be there to see how they compare with the very best crews around.
