Our Club |
Welcome to the Saunton Sands Surfboat team. We are part of the Saunton Sands Surf Lifesaving Club, based in North Devon. We row in the UK Surf Rowers League, competing at venues throughout the south west of England and in Wales. In 2007 we reached the final at the UK National Surfboat Championships and came fourth. Surfboat racing is a relatively new sport in the UK although it is well established in other countries, particularly Australia. It can be very exciting, particularly when the surf is large. It is also an excellent spectator sport, as all of the action takes place close to the shore. The 2008 season is now almost complete.

Disaster Strikes |
Who would do this to our boat? Disaster strikes as someone sets fire to our boat in the early hours of January 27th 2009. See what's left. Read the "This is North Devon" article and add your comments here.

SLS Masters 2008 |
We travelled down to Portreath in Cornwall to take part in the GB Surf Life Saving Masters Championships, representing our club. We gained silver medals in the surfboat race at the end of the day and we made a small contribution towards Saunton's massive 3000+ total - this crowned the club Masters Champions for 2008. The moment that this was announced is captured here.
Mark Henry rejoined the boat crew for the Masters Competition and his amazing medal tally at the competition was recorded in the North Devon Journal.

Pete Cropper took some fantastic photos at this event and you can see some of them here.
